Esoteric Settings membership signup

Dont’ know why, but one of my sites is generating the following URL,

http://laquintagroup.net/l5Press/public/login?http://laquintagroup.net/l5Press/member/signup

whether I click on the automated signup link or whether I directly type in:

http://laquintagroup.net/l5Press/member/signup

This appears to be the behaviour occuring after the plugIn was activated. Any ideas why this is occuring?

More importantly, how can one manage the automated membership registration process in such an instance?

Cancel that thought, it’s not all that relevant. Practically speaking, there are two routes for private/members only sites:
the site has an obscure address & is not publicly known
the site is public & there has to be a watch dog who registers folks in through the admin function and the mebership is required.

Nonetheless that does not preclude the possibility of having an obscure address, an automated signUp function and a members only feature. Here the watch dog could act *after the fact* by eliminating undesirable members… But that is a remote possibility.

The feature you’re looking for is Membership -> enable membership for this site. Esoteric settings turns that off so that private sites don’t have open membership. But in the odd case when that’s what you want, you can toggle that option on.
