Hdr, sort of

Enfused from three exposures, handheld bracketing

This is, oddly enough, an enfuse processed HDR image that is actually of a pretty low dynamic range scene, from three images that are each within the bounds of what could be captured by my sensor. There’s probably a stop of dynamic range to spare on the original middle exposed one. But running it through the enfuse HDR process changes the balance of the parts of the image, so that while there was detail in the sandbar in front in the original images, it’s more prominent here.

I’m not 100% sure I like it better, but it is different. It’s also not immediately noticeable as an hdr, and I’m sure that like that.

This is a well tweaked version of the mid exposure image, perhaps a sample of what can be pulled out without the HDR process.

New Sourdough

I haven’t been making sourdough for the last month or more, since i got a little discouraged at making either unintentional sourdough flatbreads or bricks. I tried again yesterday, and this time, I think I got it right. It was one of the better efforts so far, good texture, strong crust, and a pleasantly sour flavor. It also rose and proofed well, and had a nice freeform shape out of the oven.

Sourdough

What was different? Not totally sure. I did add 1/16 tsp of yeast per batch (non-sourdough gets 1tsp), and that was probably a help. I started early in the evening, Didn’t mix the dough all that much. After mixing in the salt and yeast, I kneaded by hand for a few minutes. That didn’t seem to do a whole lot, but when folding the dough over later in the evening, it got very smooth and elastic. It rose overnight in a cold house, and in the morning, I formed the loaves, left them on the counter to proof, and baked around noon.

Mail.app bugs

With the new webkit with safari 3.1, I’ve noticed one really annoying Mail.app regression — not the one that Daring Fireball found.

When pasting in ascii text, into a plain text email, all formatting is lost, where by formatting, I mean whitespace is collapsed.

Quite often I paste in the results of sql queries, and they’re typically aligned in columns with a monospaced font. Always worked until the upgrade, now I get everything on one line with different amounts of whitespace.

Pain in the ass really.
